This Note is one of a series where I give my ideas on aspects of Reiki and/or energy work. The pages are intended to give some "food for thought" and some are only my viewpoint. While a number of facts may be included, you should decide for yourself how much (if any) of the content feels right to you.

Receiving energy from a treeBack in Toronto in the 1970’s I was very involved in yoga. During a seminar one day an instructor mentioned the benefits of sitting with my back to a tree – I think it was a willow tree – to get the benefits of the tree’s calming energies.  This might have been the first time I paid attention to my interaction with Nature from an energy perspective.  When I took Reiki training in 1992 we were told that plants responded to Reiki being shared with them.  I must admit our Benjamina tree in the living room seemed to survive well, year after year in spite of inattention at times – it became an integral part of my Reiki classes, thriving from all the energy present in the room each time.

As our children grew up around my Reiki classes and students, I found they did enjoy giving Reiki to the house plants and those in the yard, and not just to our many pets.  Giving Reiki to a treeBut I think what really turned me onto working with Reiki in Nature were my walks in the forests near the beach.  There were a lot of large second growth trees there along the paths.  In some areas I found myself walking up to trees, resting my hands on them and offering not only the Reiki energy (and others) but also attunements to these.  It was and still is always interesting to me to feel the energy in my hands pick up, as if I was working with a person.  After a time, some of my other energy work convinced me to ask each plant if I could receive energies from it as well.  Again, I could feel this as if it was a person sharing with me – although the energies were not the same as what I was sharing.  Still it was a very wondrous discovery and reminded me of those days of sitting down with my back against a tree.

These exercises led me to start broadcasting energies as I walked around, not just in the forest or at the beach, but also along neighbourhood streets and even in downtown and other business areas.  I think I was beginning to understand better about what a Light Worker could offer Nature as well as the city in general.  The Findhorn Garden StoryWhen I was reading some of the works of the Findhorn community, Perelandra and of Christan Hummel on working with nature spirits, I began to explore that area as well.  It turns out that whether you are aware of it or not, nature spirits are extremely happy to receive Reiki for their work with plants and animals, and also to offer some back as well. They will pick up on your thoughts and good intentions and work with you to improve the quality of life around you. Even if you aren’t the gardening type, you could spend a little time each day sending some Reiki to the landscape around you, perhaps using just distant Reiki when you have time. Or you might choose the simple and lazy method of placing permanent balls of Light in an area, as I describe in my Light Technique article. Our old Benjamina is gone now.  Once the children moved on and we in turn moved to another location, it might have felt it had done its job with us.  But it’s memory seemed to encourage us to begin a couple other plants like it and they too now thrive along with our other plants.

Another way of offering Reiki to Nature is to send it to the water sources in your area. Love and Gratitude water molecule The work of Masaru Emoto detailed in “Messages From Water” shows how water molecules respond to changes in emotional energy.  So it can be argued that offering them Reiki would also improve their molecular structure and assist those who drank that water. You might intend a ball of Reiki and/or Light and Love to be placed in your water resources, as well as in any bottled water you make use of. If this interests you, there are additional ideas on using Reiki and Light this way in my “Light Technique article. smile
