Summary of Previous Gatherings
Photo Page
May 27, 2005
  • The meeting began with a really nice meditation on grounding by Peggy Muncaster.
  • Rick taught everyone how to give a simple attunement or reiju to each other.  As usual, there were some interesting experiences.
  • We had a short break and began the Reiki exchange portion.
  • This meeting we had a special guest speaker - Anneli Twan, a student of Hawayo Takata-sensei. Her mother, Wanja, was one of Takata's Canadian master students.
  • Anneli brought along her new book "Early Days of Reiki, Memories of Hawayo Takata" and sold copies.
  • Anneli shared what it was like to receive Reiki at the age of 10 in Takata-sensei's class, and then later to travel with her mother and sister to Sweden and help to teach there.
  • For a really good description of her presentation please see Jennifer Lunden Rictchie's web site.
  • (Jennifer has another really good article on Wanja Twan and Rick Bockner's 2003 Reiki retreat - Click Here.)
  • here are some photos from this gathering (sorry - they are not very good quality).
March 26, 2005
  • There were more new participants again as the word gets out about our network.
  • a brief into to Hatsureiho was given for the newcomers
  • Shuyo-ho meditation including traditional URR Gakkai Reiju to each particpant.
  • to encourage more networking, we had a brief show of hands to let everyone see who are teaching Reiki, who are giving healing - freely and for payment, and those that combine Reiki with other modalities. We had a good mix of each present.
  • Demonstraton of Gendai Paired Healing - from the URRI 1999 material presented here in Vancouver.
  • break with mingling - active and noisy as always.
  • we had a bit more time for the Reiki exchange this time and so we finished up early.
  • Reiki Mawashi (circle) was strong and afterwards everyone helped tidy up the hall.
  • here are some photos from the gathering - notice the energy orbs about the room.
January 29, 2005
  • Our first Saturday gathering.  Attendance remains the same although more new faces.
  • a brief into to Hatsureiho was given for the new comers
  • Shuyo-ho meditation including Gendai Reiju with Gendai Reiki - this is the old society form of Reiki energy that Japanese master Hirsohi Doi-sensei uses.
  • Demonstration of Gendai Reiju - Doi-sensei's method of sharing Reiju at his own Reiki gatherings and at conferences.
  • Practice with Gendai Reiju - everyone practiced this on a partner, first intending their usual Reiki energy, and then intending the Gendai Reiki energy.  Many were able to notice a difference in the energies and all really enjoyed this process of sharing reiju.
  • The break was as usual, very lively with several discussion groups going on.
  • The Reiki exchange seemed to be more relaxed as people are now getting to know each other - some tables were even sharing and trying out different traditional Reiki techniques.
  • The meeting closed with Reiki Mawashi (circle).
November 26, 2004
  • Attendance was about the same, with some new faces this month..
  • An explanation of the Hatsurei-ho was given and then the group began this meditation. As before, 2 Shihan (masters) taught in Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai (the old society) style of Reiju (like an attunement) gave empowerments from the Kyoto Gakkai lineage to each participant.
  • A brief explanation was given on this form of Reiju.
  • A presentation was given on the origins of the symbols as taught by Usui Sensei, and how they still exist in old forms of Taoism in China today.  Everyone practiced the first symbol in the original kata format. Handouts were given.
  • An open discussion followed around the following topics:
    • how do Reiki healers handle recommending additional treatments to clients (paying and non-paying)?
    • how How do Reiki teachers handle their class formats - do they tend to change?
    • How many attunements are given in each class.  What is the source of the number of attunements?
  • The meeting then went to a refreshment break followed by a healing exchange for all participants.
  • the meeting closed with a traditional Japanese Reiki circle - Reiki Mawashi.
October 1, 2004
  • Our first meeting saw about 16 Reiki Masters attending
  • An explanation of the Hatsurei-ho was given. A handout was given for this. Afterwards everyone took part in this traditional Japanese Reiki meditation.  3 Shihan (masters) taught in Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai (the old society) style of Reiju (like an attunement) gave empowerments from the Kyoto lineage to each participant.
  • A presentation was given on the origins of hand placements as a kata practice first taught by Mikao Usui Sensei. Everyone briefly practiced this.
  • The meeting then went to a refreshment break followed by a healing exchange for all participants.
  • The meeting closed with a traditional Japanese Reiki circle - Reiki Mawashi. (a handout was given for this).
