Threshold Anecdote - Usui Offers a Gift

- Threshold Reiki Anecdote - This page is one of a series where I share a personal experience or anecdote related to my Reiki work. The pages are also intended to give you some "food for thought" and add to your overall Reiki knowledge base. While the experience has been my own, I feel that you should decide for yourself how much (if any) of the content has any usefulness to your own Reiki work. Over the 20 years I've been teaching Reiki I have had several students who reported seeing or sensing Usui Sensei while they gave Reiki treatments or received attunements from me. But my first exposure to something like this occured in my own persence. In 1995 I began to get some students who were visiting Vancouver for a short period and they would take advantage of taking my Reiki training during their vacation here. In some cases people would even come from places as far away as Argentina, Chile, Australia or the Middle East because, often because my training was less expensive but still quite detailed. One day I had a request for training from a lady and her husband (Ann and Jim) from the UK. ( I mention them in another anecdote as well.) Being from the UK, Ann was very much involved with the Spiritual healing groups over there and she encouraged me to get in touch with some here. There were only a couple she could find near me in the Vancouver area but I did reach out to contact them as she suggested. One psychic healer who was nearby, had an apartment that she used for her spiritual gatherings. When I talked with her on the phone she was very pleasant and told me she had never heard of Reiki. I had an urge to invite her to come by and I so offered to give her a free attunement if she did so. She happened to visit on a day when I was teaching a private class. But it was during lunch and I invited her in. Immediately she gave me these beautiful violet, honeycomb beeswax candles. They were spiral in shape and with flattened edges sort of fluting upwards. I had never seen any quite like them. (years later when I taught 2 members of her comminity I learned that the lady had made these herself.) She said some spirit being she had never seen before, showed up and told her to bring these to me. This surprised me but I accepted her gift and invited her to come inside. We talked for a short time and then I offered her the Reiki attunement. When I was finished I ask her how the energy felt. She said she used to have to call on her healing energies but now she felt they were there with her all the time. She then told me that she had tuned out all my guides and her guides in order to see who would be actually giving the attunement. She had noticed a higher number of beings present doing this. She said there were 5 men standing in a row in front of her. She could see 3 of them clearly, and she described them. The one in front of her was holding a rose. I've forgotten what she said about the one to the right of him. The one to the left of him though was holding a sort of stole or cloth over his hands in prayer postitoin. She said that one was oriental and he was the one who told her to bring the candles. That intrigued me. Later I was explaining what I teach and I showed her some pictures in a Reiki book, pausing to name Mrs. Takata, Hayashi-sensei and finally Usui-sensei. She recognised Usui immediately saying he was the one who told her to bring the candles to me. That certainly got my attention. After she left I had much to think about, and in the next year I was soon to discover much more about Usui's life and the origins of the Reiki healing system. Much of this would sort of "fall into my lap" as I never seemed to have to go searching for the information and energies. As the old Bograt movie line had gone - it was the "beginning of a beautiful friendship."
